Since the weight of steel rebar has a direct impact on the price of rebar, it is very important to know the weight of the rebar and be familiar with the rebar weight table. The main parameter affecting the weight of this product is its diameter and length. In this way, the greater the diameter and length of the rebar, the greater its weight. Other factors that affect the weight of this product include the grade, production standard, and rebar alloy.
Calculating the weight of steel rebar
The main methods of obtaining weight are to use standard tables or factory weight tables as follows:
- Standard Table: In the Iranian National Standard and similar international standards in the field of rebar production, a table of unit weights of rebar is included along with their weight tolerances. By extracting the weight for each size and multiplying it by the length of each branch, the weight of each branch of rebar can be obtained.
- Manufacturer’s weight table: The weight table of this product from different factories usually differs slightly from each other, because production standards, rebar alloy, and adherence to precise dimensions are three important parameters that cause tolerances in the weight of rebar from different factories.
- Stahl Table (Standard Weight of Rebar Types): Stahl is a German word meaning steel. The weight table of steel products included in the Stahl booklet is a global standard table and is more comprehensive than the factory weight table.
Note: Factory weight tables and standard tables usually do not differ much from each other.
Online calculation of the weight of various types of rebar
In the online weight calculation tool for this product, the density of the rebar is assumed to be 8 by default. After the density is determined, the only numbers you need to enter in the rebar weight calculation software are the diameter and length of the rebar. Then, by pressing the calculate button, you will receive the weight of the rebar.
- Diameter: This field is required and is entered in millimeters. For example, 8.
- Branch length: This field is required and is entered in meters. For example, 6 or 12.
Formula for calculating the weight of steel rebar
To calculate the weight of different types of rebar, the following formula should be used. In this formula, you must enter the radius in millimeters and the length in meters. Note! The formula for calculating the weight of the ribbed and plain types of this product is no different.
1000 / [Iron density ⨯ 3.14 ⨯ Rebar length (m) ⨯ Rebar radius (mm) ⨯ Rebar radius (mm) ] = Rebar weight

Weight of various sizes of rebar
Rebar sizes range from 8 to 40 mm. Despite the variety of rebar sizes, the most commonly used rebars in construction are 8 to 22 mm in size and are ribbed. For this reason, we will explain the weights of the different rebar sizes that are most commonly used separately.
Rebar 14
The weight of each rebar branch from 14 different factories ranges from 13.5 to 15 kg. This range is consistent with standard tables, which state that the weight of size 14 rebar is 13.8 to 15.25 kg for each 12-meter branch.
Rebar 16
The weight of each 16-gauge rebar according to the standard is 18.96 kilograms, which can vary by plus or minus 5 percent. Therefore, the weight of 16-gauge rebar produced and marketed by different factories is within the standard range of 17.5 to 20 kilograms.
Rebar 10
The weight of each 10-gauge rebar varies from about 6.3 to 8 kg and is 12 meters long. The national standard also states that the weight of a 12-meter 10-gauge rebar is 7.39 kg with a ± 6% weight tolerance.
Rebar 8
The weight of a size 8 steel rebar (8 mm diameter) can vary from 4.2 to 5.5 kg depending on the manufacturer’s brand. The weight of a size 8 ribbed rebar in the national standard table is also 4.74 kg with a tolerance of ±8%. Size 8 rebar is the smallest rebar size in construction and has the lowest weight. The weight of a size 8 ribbed rebar is similar to the weight of a simple size 8 rebar, and only their weight tolerance is slightly different.
Rebar 12
The weight of 12 gauge steel rebar, which is one of the best-selling construction rebars, is about 10 to 11 kilograms. According to the national standard, the weight of 12 gauge rebar is 10.65 kilograms, which can vary by ± 6%.
Rebar 18
18 gauge rebar is produced in various factories with a length of 12 meters and a weight of about 22 to 25 kilograms. The weight of each section of 18 gauge rebar in the standard tables is stated as 24 kilograms with a tolerance of ±5%.
Rebar 20
20 gauge rebar is classified as heavy rebar and has high durability. Consequently, the weight of 20 gauge rebar is also higher than previous rebars and is produced from 28 to 30 kg for a 12-meter branch. The unit weight of 20 gauge rebar is also stated in the national standard table as 2.47 kg, equivalent to 29.64 kg for each 12-meter branch. This weight can vary by ±5%.
Rebar 22
The weight of 22 steel rebar can be obtained from about 33 to 37 kg. In the rebar standard table and standard tables, the weight of 22 steel rebar is stated as about 35.76 kg, which can have a weight tolerance of about ±5%.
Rebar 25
The weight of the 25-ribbed and plain type of this product for each 12-meter branch is 46.2 kg according to the standard. This value can vary up to plus or minus 4%. The 25-bar of different factories also varies in weight from about 43 to 47 kg, observing the same tolerance.
Steel rebar weight table by factory
Rebars in different factories with the same diameter and length usually have a slight difference in weight. In general, all factories are required to produce rebar in accordance with approved standards. Therefore, the weight table of the factories’ rebar is very close to the Stahl table and the Iranian National Standard table. On this page, the weight table of the types of rebars is presented in detail so that you can easily obtain the weight table of each rebar depending on its size.
