Iron beam weight

One of the most important and widely used steel sections is the beam, which is widely used in the construction industry. Therefore, the details of this product, such as the weight of the beam, are very important. In fact, it should be stated that the beam is one of the most important construction profiles. Due to its different types and sizes, it is used in different parts of the building. The beam plays a very important role in important constructions such as the construction of various bridges, dams and skyscrapers.

Types of beams; an important factor in calculating beam weight

Like other steel sections, beams have different types and standards. It is important to know that the weight of different types of beams varies according to the size and production standard. And by using the weight parameter of the beam, you can obtain important information such as the price of the beam. When buying a beam, familiarity with the types of beams and the weight of each is one of the important things that should be paid special attention to. Beams are usually produced with the following standards and are available in the consumer market:
  • IPE beam (European and Iranian standard)
  • INP beam (China and Russia standard)
  • IPB beam (wide wing)
  • CPB honeycomb beam

Formula for calculating the weight of a beam

The beam is the most well-known steel section in construction, which has had a high volume of consumption as a column in the building skeleton in the past, so calculating the weight of the beam accurately can be effective in the weight of the structure. The difference between the types of beams available in the hardware market is related to the ratio of the flange and web sizes in the beam. For example, its beams have wider flanges than other beams. On the other hand, each of these products has a certain density. To calculate the weight of the beam, it is necessary to use density and geometric specifications. To calculate the weight of the beam, you must know the cross-sectional area and length of the beam. In general, the formula for calculating the weight of the beam is as follows:

Specific weight of the beam (from the Stahl beam table) ⨯ Beam length (m) = Beam weight

IPE beam weight calculation formula

Since the weight of the IPE beam also requires its own Stahl table, it is better to calculate the weight of this beam separately. In practice, the formula for calculating the weight of the IPE beam is the same as the previous formula, but the weight of the beam in the table will be different.

Weight of one meter of IPE beam (from Stahl table) ⨯ Beam length (m) = Weight of IPE beam

Formula for calculating the weight of CPE iron beam

Due to its special structure and production method, honeycomb beams require that when calculating the weight of a 12-meter branch of it, it is necessary to pay attention to the specific weight of the honeycomb beam in the Stahl table. It should be noted that the weight of the honeycomb beam is lighter than other types of beams, and the reason for this is the presence of holes in the beam. However, you can calculate the weight of a honeycomb beam branch using the data in the Stahl table as follows.

Weight of one meter of honeycomb beam (from Stahl table) ⨯ Beam length (m) = CPE beam weight

Formula for calculating the weight of a double iron beam

Double beams are used to strengthen parts of a structure, such as roof coverings or structures that require high strength. To produce this type of beam, two beams must be used side by side that can be welded together. Given the importance of this type of beam in construction, its weight needs to be calculated accurately. You can obtain the weight of a double beam using the following formula and the Stall table. Of course, it should be noted that the type of beam used is very important. Most of its beams are used to produce double beams.

Weight of one meter of beam (from Stahl table) ⨯ 2 ⨯beam length (m) = weight of double beam

Formula for calculating the weight of iron beams per factory

As you know, many factories are engaged in the production of beams, each of which has a specific weight based on the quality and equipment used. Therefore, it is important to pay special attention to the brand of the factory when purchasing the beam, so that you can obtain the beam’s weight and estimate the final price of the load based on the size and standard dimensions of that factory. The following is a formula that takes into account that you must enter the beam dimensions of the same factory.

1000 / [Density ⨯ Beam Length ⨯ (Web Height ⨯ Web Thickness) + 2 ⨯ (Flange Width ⨯ Flange Thickness)] = Weight of one beam branch

Application of iron beam weight table

Some esteemed buyers believe that because the beam is a specialized product, it is difficult to know its exact weight. Accordingly, when buying, you can only rely on the words of sales experts in the field of ironwork. This is if you can use the formula for calculating the weight of the beam (mentioned in the previous section) or use the beam weight table below to make your purchase in the shortest possible time and with complete confidence that the weight of the beam in the table below is standard. Using the beam weight table and even without using the formula, you can easily find out the weight of the beam you intend to buy. Below, for each type of beam, there is a table that contains the size of all parts of the beam in different sizes along with its weight in the 1-meter and 12-meter branches.
