Another type of steel section is sheet. Sheet steel is a relatively flat plate or sheet made from iron and tin alloys in two types: flat and coil. The thickness of a steel sheet is measured in terms of gauge. The higher the gauge, the thinner the sheet, and the lower the gauge, the thicker and more durable the steel. The thickness of steel sheets ranges from 8 to 30 gauge. On the other hand, sheets themselves come in different types. Each of which can have a different weight depending on the type. There are different methods for calculating the weight of a steel sheet.
Sheet thicknesses can vary greatly. Thin or thick products may be used for specific applications. Very thin paper sheets are often referred to as foils and very thick steel sheets are referred to as plates. While there is no industry standard for distinguishing sheets from plates, sheets can usually be marketed in rolls, whereas a thick plate is not.
Calculating sheet weight using the Stahl table
In fact, different materials are used to produce standard steel sheets. In addition to all these, the method of sheet production can also affect its quality and weight structure. Cold rolling is the most common and cost-effective method of sheet production. Although cold rolled steel is widely used in industries. However, this sheet can rust and corrode over time when exposed to moisture or chemicals. Galvanized steel sheets are coated with zinc through a plating process, this coating is considered a corrosion-resistant layer. Stainless steel sheets are among the most expensive sheets available.
Due to the presence of the chromium element in this type of sheet, they are very resistant to oxidation. And at the same time, they give the steel an attractive appearance. All of the above is so that a quality product can ultimately be obtained. Of course, each of these items can directly affect the weight of the sheet. For this reason, an international standard has been established for the weight of each type of sheet. Through which, the standard weight of the types of sheet can be obtained.
Steel sheet weight calculation formula
Another method of calculating the weight of a sheet is to use a formula. Experts in this field have made it easy to calculate the weight of a sheet by providing a formula. To use the formula, you only need to have the dimensions and density of the desired sheet. There are a total of 4 formulas that have something in common. The first and second formulas are for calculating the weight of black, colored, galvanized, oiled, acid-washed and aluminum corrugated sheets. They are very similar to each other. You just need to know the density of iron, steel and aluminum, which is stated below.
- Density of iron: 7.86
- Density of steel: 7.84
- Aluminum density: 2.73
Sheet length (m) × sheet width (m) × sheet thickness (mm) × sheet density = sheet weight
Formula for calculating the weight of corrugated sheet
Calculating the weight of a corrugated sheet of fabric and press will be slightly different depending on its appearance. This sheet will be thicker due to the protrusions on its surface. Therefore, to calculate the weight of this sheet, you should proceed as follows.
(X + sheet thickness (mm)) × sheet length (m) × sheet width (m) × sheet density = weight of steel ribbed sheet
In this formula, the value of χ is determined according to the thickness of the sheet. If the thickness of the ribbed sheet is 3 mm or less, the value of χ will be 0.3, and if the thickness of the sheet is 4 mm or more, the value of χ will be 0.4.
Hardox sheet weight calculation formula
The formula for calculating the weight of Hardox sheet is the same as the formula for ribbed sheet, except that the value of χ is constant and equal to 0.3. As a result, the formula for calculating the weight of Hardox sheet will be as follows:
(0.3+ sheet thickness (mm)) × sheet length (m) × sheet width (m) × sheet density = Hardox sheet weight
Application of steel sheet
Steel sheets can be used in various applications, including in the automotive industry for the manufacture of automotive parts and in various construction industry projects. Stainless or galvanized sheets can be used on the roofs of villa houses. Steel sheets also have many useful uses in heating and cooling equipment and interior designs. And they can prevent large expenses for such projects. Therefore, the price of the sheet can be the first word in small and large projects. Therefore, access to the final and up-to-date price of products such as steel sheets is of doubly important. You can see the current and updated prices of various types of sheets in the link below.
